DIY Duct Tape Bows For Little Chics

1 Duct Tape Hair Band

These cute and easy to make duct tape bows are a great project for all ages and skill levels and would be a fun way to spend some special mother/daughter time together this Easter with your little chic.  You can add your bows to hair bands, barrettes, or pony tail elastics. Just head to the dollar store to buy your Easter themed duct tape and some hair accessories.

How To Make A Bow – Adjust the length of duct tape to reflect the size of bow you want. The following bow was approximately 6″ long and folded in on itself to meet in the middle for a 4″ piece. Then fold 4″ strip back and forth lengthwise like a paper fan and glue the middle together before wrapping the center in small piece of ribbon or strip of tape. It’s that easy!

I’ve made these bows for Easter but there are so many variations of duct tape designs available now that you could make different bows and hair accessories for all your special occasions and holiday celebrations. This would also be a great activity for a little girls party!

Using the Easter duct tape, it’s fun and easy to decorate a vase, candle or candy dish and by adding some ribbon or embellishments you can get creative and make it your own. These are just some ideas but you could decorate napkin holders, salt & pepper shakers, picture frames, and so much more! I found two different patterns of Easter tape that appealed to me but there are lots of different designs to choose from.

Easter Egg Secrets – How to Remove Whites & Yolk Without Cracking The Shell

By Starr Durrant

Did you know that by removing the egg white and yolk before decorating your Easter eggs they can last for decades to come! Decorated boiled eggs left long enough will end up with a dense, hard yolk that can rattle around in the shells causing cracks and the odor is awful. The solution is to remove the yolk and egg white before decorating.  Check out my   how-to video tutorial below as well as additional links to pysanky attractions, design templates, online tutorials and suppliers.

Egg De-yolking

A few years ago my mother passed on to me a portion of her pysanky collection, each egg lovingly acquired and cared for  over the years including a few that my Baba (Ukrainian grandmother) made when I was a child in the 60’s.

I still remember how my she taught me to remove the egg white and yolk without cracking the shell by poking holes in either end and carefully blowing through the top hole and pushing the egg contents carefully through the bottom. If you follow the steps in the video and don’t have success increase the size of the holes by using a tooth pick or small nail. Remember to shake the egg well first to make sure the yolk is broken!

Preserve Your Kids Decorated Eggs!
This beautiful pysanka was decorated by my grandson Logan at school last year. Even if kids are decorating their Easter eggs with food coloring, felt pens, stickers and the like, by removing the egg from the shell, rather than boiling them, you can preserve these treasured gifts for years to come!
